Dear Agony: A Novel by Georgia Cates

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Can I give Dear Agony 5+ stars? Why doesn’t Amazon or Goodreads allow readers to give an extra special star or even a 1/2 star? Oh well, at least I can do it in writing. I knew Dear Agony was going to be an emotional journey based on the title, but I didn’t expect this. Everything about this book pulled on my heartstrings and didn't let go. At times that I wanted to kick my Kindle as tears ran down my face. I think Dear Agony might be Georgia Cates' finest work to date! I'm lost in a sea of emotions and feeling like a book hangover will be in my future. Warning: you will need a box of tissues. This book will make my best of 2017 list. Bravo Georgia!

What a dirty, filthy, and rich start to this two book series! In this prequel, we meet Donovan Kincaid and Weston King, two cocky and very rich Harvard college students. We also meet Sabrina Lind, a quite scholarship student that finds herself equally entranced by the two best friends. Things start to heat up and might potentially turn into a twisted love triangle or something more. We get a peek into the future ten years later. OMG, I need Dirty Filthy Rich Men (Book 1) now, but I’ll settle for March 27th. I love Laurelin Paige!

I really enjoyed Cole by Tijan. This sexy mafia romance turned into a real page-turner, even though it slowed down a little in the middle. But then BOOM, what a roller coaster in the second half of this book, with explosive plot twists and turns leading to an ideal ending.

I didn't begin writing until after undergraduate college. There'd been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can't blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! So after that day, it took me lots of work until I was able to put together something that resembled a novel. I'm hoping I got it right since someone must be reading this profile! She turns her head. 

And waves.

And smiles.

That smile makes me feel like I can do this. Like I can win her heart again. Mine pounds faster as I near her, and it’s not just because I happen to think she’s the most stunning woman I’ve ever seen, but because of who she is.

I arrive at her side, and she straightens. “Hey.”

“Hey.”

There’s that awkwardness again, and I want no part of it today. Like the bungee jumper I am, I lean in and dust a quick kiss on her lips. At first, she freezes. That won’t fucking do at all. My tongue darts out, flicking her top lip. A soft breath escapes her, and she gives in. Her sweet lips linger on mine, sending a charge down my spine. She smirks. “Be my guest.”

I kiss her once more, like I’m reversing the lip lock, doing it all in rewind, pulling away ever so slowly, ever so softly, leaving her dazed once more.

If she can drive me this crazy, make me this hard, send the temperature in my blood to beyond incendiary, the least I can do is return the favor.

Armed with my clipboard, I walk down the hall to the waiting room. Lance is impossible to miss. Despite the fact that he’s wearing a sweatshirt and the hood is covering half of his face, he’s more than six feet of broad, hockey-playing man. 

He’s so wide his shoulders encroach on the chairs on either side, which would explain why no one is sitting next to him. He’s slouched down so his head rests on the back of the chair, and his hands are clasped in his lap, a baseball cap hanging off one knee. His lips, plush and soft—I know since I’ve had them on mine; it might have been a decade ago, but I remember it clearly—are parted. He looks like he’s asleep.

I clear my throat. “Lance Romero?” 

He doesn’t move.

Bernadette, the receptionist, gives me a meaningful look.

I clear my throat again and call his name a second time. He jolts awake and the hood falls back, exposing his face. It’s not in good shape. He has a black eye and bruises on his left cheek. There’s a fly bandage across one eyebrow.

Sadly, he’s still hot.

He blinks a few times, yawns, and smacks his lips, his tongue touching the split in the bottom one. His gaze sweeps the room and finally lands on me. Heat explodes in my cheeks and courses through my limbs, warming me from the inside out as he starts at my sneaker-clad feet and roams up over my yoga pants to my company-issued T-shirt before stopping at my face. I can’t look directly at him for more than a couple of seconds. I sincerely hope he doesn’t remember me. I cannot go there and also be professional.
