Bend Don’t Break (Irrevocable #2) picks up after “The Retreat” was raided, and James/Rose was rescued.   This second installment is told via James’ POV and deals with the emotional aftermath of being undercover.  James and Rose’s story continues and book #2 isn’t a regurgitated version of the first book.  Rose and James are physically and emotionally scarred from their time at The Retreat.  James is forced into therapy in order to start working again.  He is belligerent and distant while having to recall his actions while recuperating.  James is a bit freaked out about having enjoyed some of the dark sexual aspects of the force and control he had over Rose.  Can they move forward and make things work?  Will they ever be the same…or did their time at The Retreat bend them so far that they break?

Bend Don’t Break wasn’t as dark as Irrevocable and ended up being a perfect mix of drama and suspense. This sequel is heavily focused on the emotional aftermath and criminal investigation.  BDB is a must read for Irrevocable fans!  I hope we get to see another book in this series about Trent!

“She’s fine,” Dr. Combs assured me. “But I don’t think it would be in the best interest for either of you to see each other. You put yourself in a dangerous situation with her.”
Put myself? Last I checked I wasn’t the one to drag her into the Retreat. “I kept her alive and slightly less broken than she would have otherwise been.”
“The two of you adapted to a horrible situation, found comfort in each other—”
I didn’t want to hear it.
Stockholm Syndrome.
I wondered if the captor could get it, too. Was I even the captor? It seemed like I’d lost control of the situation long ago.
But I’d still been the one to beat her, rape her, bend her will.
Just like she’d bent mine.
I wanted her back so bad I couldn’t breathe. The more we talked about it, the worse it got. The harsh reality of it all forced me to face the possibility that I had to walk away if I wanted to do what was in her best interest.
“How long until I can talk to Trent?” I tried again, drawing back a modicum of control by changing the course of the conversation.
Dr. Combs sighed and snapped her portfolio closed. “If it’ll get you to talk, I’ll make the arrangements on one condition.”
I’d already sold my soul, there weren’t many more concessions I had left to give.
“I need to know you’re not going to try to reach out to Rose—or anyone else.”

Skye Callahan was born and raised in rural Ohio and has had an insatiable love of reading and writing since she was young. Thanks to the encouragement of teachers, family, and friends, she has found her passion in immersing herself in the imaginary worlds of the characters who live in her head.

What a hella of a novella! Once again, CJ Roberts knocked it out of the park with the latest installment in the Dark Duet series. Determined To Obey is an ABSOLUTE must read. I highly suggest reading the first three books in this series to comprehend various relationships and critical background information. I don’t say this often enough...Thank you for writing this book. This series is some of the finest dark, twisted and erotic Kindle Crack.

Marcus: Well considering I first met Tessa when I was a thirteen year old little shit, the head on my shoulders wasn’t really an issue. Marcus: Oy! Secrets. They’re secrets for a reason, no? But if you MUST know (and I’ll have to kill you if you tell her this) my sister Riley is the person I look up to the most. Since my mother died, she’s been the closest thing to one for me and her opinion, whether I listen to it or not, really means the world to me. She’s a nagging pain in the ass, and a hypocrite in many ways if I do say so myself, but I’d walk burning coals for my big sis and I love her more than she probably knows.

 Peyton: I like a woman on top and in charge.

Chase: My biggest secret? I’m an open book. There was that one time back in high school when my buddies and I got caught sneaking beer out of the back of a bar.
