From USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Hartmann comes a new angsty, standalone contemporary romance.
I already had a life. A future. A man I'd promised forever to.
But the night I found Chase Rhodes—bleeding, broken, and more lost than I was—everything changed.
I wasn't supposed to let him in. Wasn't supposed to write music with him in secret beneath the moon.
What started as a quiet escape became something unstoppable. Our songs caught fire, and now the whole world knows our names.
Music has a way of pulling the broken together, even when the timing is impossible and the fallout inevitable.
But some hearts don't settle. Some songs were never meant to stay quiet.
Because the night I saved him was only the beginning.
And loving me might be the last risk he'll ever take.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
“At the end of the day, we’re all just broken strings… still part of the same song.”
Pieces of the Night by Jennifer Hartmann absolutely shattered me, then somehow stitched me back together. This rock star romance pulled on my heartstrings from the first to the last page.
Annie and Chase meet under life-altering, blink-and-your-world-changes circumstances. What grows between them is raw, complicated, and rooted in their shared love of music. Annie is stuck in a toxic, pseudo-abusive relationship with her high school boyfriend, Alex, one that blurs the lines between comfort and control. Meanwhile, her slow-burning connection with Chase simmers beneath the surface, unspoken, undeniable, and impossible to ignore once she finally sees her unhealthy relationship with Alex for what it is. Annie must navigate her feelings for both Alex and Chase, and life hits a sour note. Their musical journey is filled with twists and turns, heartache and hope, until the music stops.
This book is a deeply emotional journey through grief, trauma, self-discovery, and forgiveness with a love story that feels both fragile and all-consuming. I felt every single note of this one. The playlist and songwriting were the chef’s kiss!
