Torn (Connections, #2)Torn by Kim Karr

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. Spoiler-free review. I highly recommend reading Connected (book #1) prior to reading Torn (Connected# 2). No cliffhanger. 5 Stars!*****
Once again I took Kim Karr on vacation with me. Well…not Kim (but I bet she would be fun to hang with). I was lucky to have an advanced review copy of her second book Torn (Connected #2) to pack. FYI - while reading book one while on vacation in the Dominican Republic a while ago I ended up with a nasty sun burn because I got so wrapped up in this book. A few margaritas later I tried to numb the pain from wanting to jump off a cliff from the mother of all cliffhangers and my sun burn.
Kim joined me on vacation in Wildwood, NJ (again...not Kim but her second book Torn). Game on! This time I was party prepared with sunblock. I prayed that book two wasn’t going to have another painful cliffhanger and it didn’t! WHEW. Give me a cocktail and a Kindle loaded with Kim Karr’s books and it’s a perfect vacation day. Nothing much else mattered…except for this book and that my husband watched the kids in water.
Here is my spoiler free breakdown of Torn - Everything is coming together…and everything is falling apart for Dahlia. In Torn, Dahlia is accidentally reunited with River Wilde, the hot rocker she met many years ago in a college bar. Their off the charts chemistry is still crackling in the air. Dahlia is finally moving past her ex-fiancés death and starting to come alive again. Dahlia & River fall madly in love but there is one huge obstacle in the way of their happiness. Dahlia’s past was painful and she has no idea that her future might be even worse. River is full of secrets, her friends are telling lies and Dahlia is in danger of losing more than her love life. Who is going to end up Torn?
Kim Karr is a master at creating Kindle Crack worthy stories. I am a book junkie and Kim Karr’s books are my drug of choice. This highly anticipated follow up to Connected did not disappoint and was worth the wait. There are a few writers that I have on my “auto-download” list and Kim Karr is one of them.
This second chance romance has one of the best love triangle twists of all time. While reading Torn there were times I felt like I was stuck on an emotional roller coaster in spin cycle mode. Dahlia & River’s relationship had my head and stomach-churning simultaneously. Then there was the steam factor…Thanks for fogging up my Kindle screen Kim. I love the way Kim Karr unraveled story and it wasn’t overdone with drama. This book was worth the wait. Connected fans should be prepared to stay up all night reading this book. You will not be able to put it down. Go one click this book right now. Torn by Kim Karr is Kindle Crack.

Excerpt  From Torn:
As tension fills the air between us, I watch him, still unsure about what to do. After a few more seconds of unbearable silence, I close the distance separating us and stand directly in front of him. Avoiding eye contact he leans forward, setting all four legs of the chair down. It kills me to be standing here like this, unable to touch him. I want him to talk to me. I have to break the silence. So I ask, “Do you know your brother’s passed out on the couch?”
“Yeah, well he did his best to keep up with me,” he says, setting his beer bottle down next to at least a dozen others. Cocking his head to the side, he just barely glances at me. “So where does all this leave us?”
I answer in complete honestly. “The same place we were yesterday. I know we both have issues to work out, but I’m not sure talking about them anymore tonight is a good idea.” Then I grab his hand and pull him out of the chair. He comes willingly. A bag of ice falls to the ground and I notice his other hand is wrapped in a kitchen towel. I swipe his hair from his forehead and try to look at him, into his eyes, but they are unfocused and the skin around one is slightly discolored. I cup his face and he closes his eyes. I run my fingers around the outline of his swollen bruise. “Does it hurt?”
“Nah, not anymore,” he shrugs.
I lift his hand and can see that it’s also swollen and bruised. “God, River, is it broken?”
He laughs slightly before saying, “You know, I have no fucking idea, but it hurts like hell. Xander had me move my fingers and when I did, he told me to suck it up.”
I carefully caress his hand and bring it to my mouth, softly kissing it. “You can’t go after Ben every time you see him. Fighting with him isn’t going to change anything.”
“Might not change anything, but makes me feel a hell of a lot better.”
