Put down whatever you are reading now...and read Hopeless by Colleen Hoover. If Hopeless doesn't top the charts on the NYT/Amazon bestsellers lists then I might go as far as to go on strike and stop reading... because this book is IT!!!!! It was that good. I couldn't possibly write a review about Hopeless or Colleen Hoover's brilliant writing or storytelling abilities that would do justice. She blew me away with Slammed and Point of Retreat. So I set the bar pretty high with Hopeless. She blew that bar (that doesn't sound so good does it ;) but she truly did. This is the kind of book that will stay with me forever. It's raw, real and a complete emotional roller coaster/mind fuck and a half. I will remain spoiler-free here and just say that Sky and Holders' story will blow you away. As their story unravels into your and head and heart. Fans of Hoover's Slammed series, Rebecca Donovan's Breathing series, Jamie McGuire's Beautiful Disaster or Nicole Williams Crash series will LOVE. Stop reading this review and buy this book now!

This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas

FIVE STAR KINDLE CRACK!!
Move over Christian Grey and step to the side Gideon Cross there is a new man in town... Jesse Ward is a domineering, self-destructive beautiful disaster. He falls hard for attractive interior designer Ava O’Shea and will do anything to have her.  Their relationship is nothing short of a Tsunami. She jumps into this relationship of uber dysfunction as she desperately tries to unravel this hot mess of a man.  Their sexual escapades are vividly described without Jodi Ellen Malpas skipping a beat.  Ava and Jessie have all kinds of crazy sex... hot, slow, hard, ummm...senseless, sleepy (you will understand after your read this book). They fight and fuck more than humanly possible. Loving bat shit crazy Jesse is a bitter twisted adventure for Ava...where Jesse is the God of “Jesseland” and determined to control every aspect her life (and shield her from his).
Jessie's skeletons and sordid tales of vaginas past start to slowly start surface as Ava learns that Jesse owns high-end hotel/swingers club where he is also member.  She is in love and desperate to learn why he is a jealous controlling train wreck.   Poor Ava --- Getting Jessie to open up about himself and his past is about as painful as watching a dental patient receiving root canal without Novocain.
I loved both books!!!! I will say the fighting and dysfunctional sex gets a tiny bit stale at times but Jodi Ellen Malpas is an incredible story teller.  This isn’t your momma’s 50 Shades…This Man & Beneath This Man are both effing Smuttaskic books! Jeese is a whackadoo with a heart of gold and I couldn’t help but love him in the end. The next book can’t come out fast enough. When when when?
Fans of the 50 Shades series and Bared to You series will devour This Man and Beneath This Man.

Beneath the Burn by Pam Godwin

Charlee and Jay are two lost souls burned by life.  Their worlds collide and life as they know it will never be the same ever again.
Charlee’s father is a huge loser on so many levels.  He used his daughter as collateral to cover his gambling bets.  He lost his daughter and his own life to Roy.  At sixteen, Charlee is held hostage by a sadistic fuck named Roy…who happens to be an international business owner with a bank account to rival that of Bill Gates. She is forced to live her days chained up and sexually assaulted by Roy in his demented prison penthouse of horrors. Charlee does whatever she has to do to survive.  She creates her own invisible armor to block out her life with Roy.  Charlee gets a bitter sweet taste of freedom but is enslaved by her own demons and never free from him.

Jay is the tormented lead singer of the rock band – The Burn.  Everyday life is a struggle for the beautiful rock god. He is mentally held hostage by horrific childhood memories. Jay’s demons cause him to be repulsed by a strangers touch and ignite deep seeded panic and depression.  His horrific flashbacks antagonize his mind, body and soul.  He numbs his pain through playing his music, drug abuse and mindless sex with groupie sluts. Jay is damaged to the core - never allowing anyone or anything to touch him…to see the real him. One night after a show he walks into a tattoo parlor and allows a beautiful tattoo artist (who happens to be Charlee) to create a veil to cover up his physical scars.  Charlee’s art and her words pierce his heart and he longs to be freed as an emotional hostage to his twisted past.

“How had Jay survived his pain?  If he were hanging in the irons, what would he have done to guard his mind from splintering apart?  How resilient he must’ve been to carry the weight of so many wounds.  She wanted to borrow his strength, imagined it plated over her skin.”

A chance meeting in another time and place once again causes their paths collide.

“She has a memory of a man with a back full of scars.  Beneath the superficial damage was a devotion to survival, as instinct to dominate his future.  Most probably didn’t see that when they looked at him, but she hadn’t just recognized it, she’d felt it and wanted it.”
I don’t want to give away anything about this story.  I hate the word “epic”…but it’s the only way to describe this story….it’s fucking epic.  BtB is the ultimate emotional roller coaster ride of survival and second chances.    I recommend checking out the author’s content warning.  This gut wrenching story is not for everyone and not easily digestible.  It took me to this uncomfortable place and dangled me there to take it in. This story is so emotional and so well written that it will leave you captivated from the first page to the last. This isn’t a pretty hearts and flowers erotic tale of love…this ain’t your mamas 50 Shades of Grey kind of book ;) – so I wouldn’t loop in the same genre because of BDSM factor.

I don’t know where Pam Godwin came from…but I’m sure glad I found her and this book. Her character development is off the charts.  The way she crafted this dark and twisted story to unravel is breath taking and will make you cringe.  BtB is so incredibility raw… fucked up and is one hell of a hard core page turner. FIVE++ BURNING STARS.

I Surrender by Monica James

Ava picks up and leaves everything – college, family and friends to follow her boyfriend to live in Singapore. Then he breaks up with her in a karaoke bar (such a huge dbag!) Ava is completely devastated from the breakup and returns home to LA and moves in with her best friend V. V. drags her track wreck of a best friend out on the town to meet her boyfriend who happens to be in a popular local band. She meets V’s boyfriends' bandmate--Jasper. They have the whole insta-chemistry thing going on. Ava and Jasper decide they can only be friends since she is still nursing a broken heart from her break up with the overseas dbag. Then there is the issue of Jasper’s girlfriend! She learns that he is in an on/off again relationship with some blonde bimbo. Finally, timing is right for the two friends to make a go at a real relationship. Ava emotionally sabotages herself and ends up pushing Jasper away. Their relationship is peppered with a lot of miscommunication related drama and trust issues. She is terrified to about having to have her heart broken again. Jasper has his own set of emotional baggage he is dealing with. Will she finally allow herself to love and trust again? Will Jasper figure out how to be in a “real” relationship? Will he stop kissing his ex? That’s just the start.

I loved the way this story developed. I felt like I was in Ava's head and heart as the story unfolded. Yes, there were times I want to drop kick her when she was in self-destruct mode. Arghhhh…She reminded me a lot of Kiera from SC. Stephens Thoughtless series. What is there not to like about Jasper…he’s hot, plays in a band, has cerulean blue eyes and works in an animal shelter! I loved that he was a straight shooter most of the time...except for some of his douchey behavior with his ex-girlfriend. I am hooked on this series. There is a cliff hanger. I Surrender....Monica James!!! I'm begging for book two.

First time author Alyssa Rae Taylor did a great job building up the steam, suspense…and a following for her book Raising Ryann. She has been writing and releasing this sexy story on WattPad in bits and pieces.

Reese Johnson’s childhood memories are anything but special. Her drunken father beats on her and her mom. After her parents separate Reese faces more drama when one of her mom’s sleazy boyfriends attempts to rape her. She is saved by a neighbor who hears her screams for help. Fast forward years later… Reese is a hardworking, strong woman determined to make it on her own. She is enrolled in college and working two jobs to support herself. One day this hot as hell tattooed muscle head shows up to work alongside her at her job at the gym. Reese is attracted to him…but can’t stand his cocky demeanor. She realizes her hot new coworker is the boy her saved her years ago. Luke Ryann left his sky rocketing career as an MMA fighter. He is burnt out of the whole lifestyle – travel, sluts and partying. He decided to take a job teaching self-defense in his foster parents gym back at home in Arizona. He knows he will be working alongside of the little girl he saved from being attacked long ago. Luke wonders if she will remember him since he looks so different. She’s still a little girl….right? Reese slowly learns that Luke has his own emotional baggage he is dealing with. If you are looking for a solid YA/Coming of Age book (with a “NC-17” movie rating) this is it. There is steam factor thing going on….but it doesn’t progress into your typical MMA-fighter style alpha male “get a room/cage/mat” wild sex. Alyssa Rae Taylor does a fantastic job with the chemistry build up between the young couple. I have to say….the first 50% of the book moved a little bit slow for me….but the last 50% made up for it with character development, plot and relationship drama all coming together at a rapid pace. Then BANG… it all comes to a screeching halt with the mother of all cliff hangers and I felt like I took one of Luke’s MMA punches to my heart. I need book 2 – Bad Boy Reformed. This is some amazing YA Kindle Crack. Existing Wattpad readers/fans of Raising Ryann are also going to LOVE the way this story is crafted.
